Dr Teuila Percival

President

Teuila Percival is a Consultant Paediatrician at Kidz First Children's Hospital, South Auckland. Teuila is Samoan with a wealth of clinical and governance experience, including previous chair and current board member of South Seas Healthcare as well as current member of the New Zealand health Research Council Pacific health research committee. She is passionate about improving child health outcomes and continues to be a strong advocate for the evidence based - design, implementation and evaluation of children’s health services in New Zealand.
 
Dr Apisalome Sikaidoka Talemaitoga

Treasurer

Apisalome Talemaitoga is a Fijian General practitioner and Clinical Director at the Pacific health clinic in Christchurch. Prior to this Dr Talemaitoga practiced at Christchurch Hospital (1995-1996) and the Colonial War Hospital in Suva, Fiji (1989 1993). He has also served as the private physician for senior officials in Fiji. Dr Talemaitoga has previously served on the Interim Canterbury District Health Board and is the vice chairman of the Canterbury Pacific Trust and was a member of the Stroke Advisory Group. This role has involved assisting in the writing of new stroke guidelines. He has also been a member of the Pacific Reference Group for the Department of Children and Young Persons (2000-2002), and is a current member on the National Health Committee.
 
Dr Justine Ana Seini Mesui
MBCHB, MRNZCGP (Auckland)

Secretary

Justine is a Tongan General Practitioner currently working in West Auckland. She also works in a School Based Clinic at Kelston Girls High School. She has a key interest in diabetes, is involved in community as well as guideline development (NZ Guidelines Group). She is also passionate about Pacific youth health and currently undertaking a Diploma in Youth Health at the University of Auckland.
 


 
 
The Membership Board is elected annually at our Annual General Meeting. It has an advisory role to the PMA executive board as well as the coordination and/or implementation of specific key projects as they arise.  
Dr Faafetai Ventura
MBCHB (Otago), FAFPHM (RACP), FRNZCGP

Chair Education Committee

Faafetai Ventura is a medical doctor trained in public health and general practice. She received her high school education in Samoa, before studying at Otago University. She is currently a Senior lecturer in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, University of Otago, and is also a General Practitioner at Dunedin Urgent Doctors. Her research interests include non-communicable diseases, regional policies & networks, and workforce development. Tai has also been and continues to be particularly instrumental in providing leadership, mentoring and support for students in Dunedin and the rest of New Zealand and was closely involved in the recent establishment of the Pacific islands Health Professionals Students Association (PIHPSA).
 
Eseta Finau

Eseta Finau is Tongan with many years of nursing experience in Australia, Tonga and New Zealand. She completed her nursing training, midwifery and operating theatre nursing in Sydney. She also graduated with her Masters of Public Health at the University of Auckland. Eseta is the Coordinator and Researcher for the Pacific SIDS Prevention Programme, within the Pacific Division and University of Auckland.
 
Dr Josephine Aumea Herman

Chief Executive Officer

Dr Herman is of Cook Island descent. Public Health Medicine Specialist with a variety of interests relating to public, population and Pacific health. Currently placed at Counties Manukau District Health Board with the Pacific team and working on Pacific population diabetes modelling to identify posssible interventions that may assist in the reduction in the incidence and impact of diabetes in Pacific people in Counties Manukau.

Tofilau Alistair Papali'i-Curtin

Alistair is of Samoan European descent and is currently a 3rd year medical student at the University of Auckland. He completed the Certificate in Health Sciences course in 2004, where he shard the role as one of two Pacific Island Student Representatives for the programme. Alistair is passionately involved with a range of community activities for youth. He is also a mentor for Pacific Island students studying health related degrees at the University of Auckland, and is the Pacific Island Vice-President for the Maori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS).

Hi, my name is Lorna Williams; I’m currently a 2nd year MBChB (medical) student at the University of Auckland. I’m of Cook Islands descent, with the majority of my family coming from Rarotonga and Aitutaki. I also currently hold a Certificate in Health Science (CHSc)  (graduate of the class of 2006).
Currently a mentor to Maori and Pacific youth at the University of
Auckland, especially those who wish to pursue a career in health. Love traveling and meeting new people and expanding my network of friends.

James Alesana-Slater

James Alesana

James Alesana-Slater is a Samoan-scotsman from Lalomalava in Samoa. He is the current president of PIHPSA (Pacific Island Health Professional Students Association), and is in the third year of his medical studies at the University of Otago (UoO). He attended Vaiola College and Robert Louis Stevenson High school before entering the NUS (National University of Samoa) Foundation course. He was the student president for Studholme Hall, UoO Hall of Residence in 2006, and was the medical student representative in 2007. His interests include rugby (playing for varsity blues in 2006 and 2007) and research (an investigator in antibiotic resistance study in Samoa). He is passionate about Pacific health and wishes to work in Samoa and the Pacific region after completing his studies.

Prerna Seghal

Prerna Seghal is Tongan and attended Tonga Side School and Tonga High School before migrating to New Zealand. She has a degree and post graduate qualification in pharmacy from the University of Otago and worked for Counties Manukau District Health Board as a clinical pharmacist prior to entering medical school. Her research interests include respiratory medicine and the development of our Pacific health workforce. Prerna is also the founding President of the newly created Pacific Island Health Professional Students Association (PIHPSA). She is now the Vice president for the PIHPSA.
